Steeped in Tradition

We welcome you to Forsyth Country Club, where tradition and history continue to be made and where your family can create memories that will last a lifetime.

We take great pride in Forsyth Country Club’s long, storied history in Winston-Salem, and as one of the premier full service private clubs in the South. The surrounding grove of large oak trees that frames the stately and majestic southern mansion, our top notch athletic professionals and excellent employees help make Forsyth Country Club the foremost place for golf, tennis, fitness, family activities, celebrations, and more. The year 1913 saw the official merging of two towns in Forsyth County, Winston and Salem. It was also the year that a group of Winston-Salem sporting enthusiasts gathered to create a club and establish a facility outside the city interior – in the country, if you will – for the pursuit of golf, and various recreations, social, and dining activities. Forsyth Country Club was officially founded on June 30, 1913.

Golf has been one of the bedrocks of the Club since it began, but it wasn’t until 1918 that the Club’s first nine-hole golf course opened. It was designed by A.W. Tillinghast, a pioneer in American golf architecture. Due to the rising popularity and love of golf, the Club expanded its course to 18 holes in 1923, thanks to the Reynolds and Hanes families that provided nearby acreage for the expansion. Another famed golf architect, Donald Ross, completed the design of the new challenging course, which measured 6,347 yards. Throughout the Club’s history, the golf course has been maintained and renovated several times, including a 2006 restoration and expansion that lengthened the course to 6,668 yards. Its famed links have also been host to many prestigious golf tournaments and players during its history.

Clubhouse

By 1940, the original clubhouse was expanded to add new east and west wings. A major capital improvement project 20 years later expanded the clubhouse even further, adding tennis courts and a new swimming pool. In 1996 a major clubhouse renovation was completed adding the downstairs Member’s Grill, upgraded locker facilities, and a fitness center. In 2015, the Club completed a five year planning, renovation and building projects totaling over $7 million. The Club opened a state-of-the-art wellness and fitness center, along with major renovations to dining and kitchen areas, outside decks and pool facilities.
